Apprentice, The Black Mage Book 2 | Rachel E. Carter, YA author

I liked Ian,but like I said,he didn't stand a chance. Not when a single touch from Darren could set Ry on fire, not when he haunted her every thought.

You swoop in and ruin my life and then you run away leaving me to pick up the pieces! Haven't you done enough? I can still hear my the black mage apprentice shattering, and when it was pulled back together it shattered again.

Take the solstice ball for example. At first I was so happy, lightheaded and squealing and laughing and then,I gaped in shock and agony and tasted ashes in my mouth.

This kept happening and happening, joy and then sorrow, hope and then disappointment, laughter and then the black mage apprentice and then hatred.

There was just so much of it — teenage angst and drama. Is he supposed to be like Jericho Barrons?

Rachel E Carter – Apprentice (The Black Mage #2) – One Way Or An Author

Honestly, it just felt like he was on his period the whole time. I made a mistake. Nothing is ever going to change that. That was Darren in this book.

Granted, his actions in the end were fine and dandy, but still. Ian, on the other hand, is introduced as a second love interest. In all honesty though, the characters were all great in their own way.

Ella continues to be a fantastic supporting character that really supports Ryiah, and Priscilla continues to be a fantastic bitch that bitches all the time. More characters are introduced that you love and hate, and some characters come back. The black mage apprentice really appreciate the battle scenes.

To make matters worse the unwanted attraction Ry feels for her sometimes-friend-sometimes-rival Prince Darren is at an all-time high - even though he is betrothed to the very girl she can't stand. Really, the only bright spot to Ryiah's new life is the time she spends with her friends, including an older apprentice named Ian, who she finds the black mage apprentice thinking about quite often.
